Re: 1972 Hydro-electric

I can't think of any reason it should'nt.

Depends. Both have to actually be Hydro-Electric and not electric clutches (1970 40hp). Furthermore, they have to have the same color electical plugs at the motor end.

And, the 1972 probably has start-in-neutral-only feature.

The switch in 100 hp control broke in half and one dealer in the states who has one 4 time the price. I'm trying to maybe change the controler to a different year if it would work.

THe 1972, 100 hp motor looks like it has battery CD ignition, rather than the magneto CD ignition that the '72 50hp and 65hp have. If I am correct, you will have a black plug under the cowl and need a hydro-electric control box with a black plug.

The motors with magneto CD ignition systems have a yellow plug and need a control with a yellow plug.

However, you can swap the switch from one style box to the other. Just ignore the two white wires for start in neutral. Or go ahead and hook them up and you will then have the feature.

You are right, those switches are sky high in price and will only get worse.....IF you can even find them anymore.
