Hello people,

Was reading a few responses to questions on here and was amazed at the knowledge of everyone and decided to ask a couple questions myself.

1) Current winch on my boat trailer is an old T2000 Fulton winch, anyone have a recommendation of a good winch to replace it with?

Boat is an 18.5' , 1983 Bayliner with a Mercruiser I/O.

2) My old winch has rope on it, what are the advantages/disadvantages of rope versus other current options.

Thank you

Absolutely agree! There is no comparision!!! The straps have a very high rating and lay in the winch a lot nicer.

I replaced mine because the old one started to get a little rusty and seeing that it is one of the main things that holds the boat to the trailer, i wanted mine in perfect condition.

If i were you, i would get the strap!

I purchased a new winch from princess auto, and it has the strap on it, and its amazing, and the best thing is like previously stated it sits on the spool really well, and almost never gets caught up or tangled

Hey thanks everyone..

ESCAPADE..

I went to Princess Auto, and i found one that had the strap on the spool already, however it was only a 1200 lb winch and my old one was a 2000 lb winch...I was concerned it would be heavy duty enough...

WHat size was the winch you replaced?

Thanks again

That's a lot of winch for your boat...but, it never hurts to have more than you need!

Check out this one (on sale) at West Marine:
