Has anyone used fluorescent lites or blacklights for night fishing? Do they work well? How about yellow lights? Hooked up to a 12V car battery?

Thanks - but did they attract fish? If you use regular lites, after about 2 hours you have the food chain started and the fish strike like crazy. Was wondering whether the fluorescent and or black lites do the same thing?

Re: Lites for night fishing

There's an Everglades-style fan boat rig I've seen here in Michigan that has 20 halogen lights mounted on the railing all around the boat. I talked to the guy and he uses his recurve bow to shoot carp at night and apparently has had great success.

Not sure if you want to have 5 deep cycle batteries on board to do something quite that big...I'm assuming that the brighter halogen lights would work great as far as attracting the bugs, then small fish, then bigger fish.

Good luck redfishgirl:D

I built what I call "The Crappie Contraption" that has two green fluorescent lights that sink and 2 green LED lights that float. It is built in a rectangle made out of PVC pipe with the lights on the corners. Works like a champ. I wired them all together and attach clamps to one of the auxillary batteries in the battery compartment.

As for the black light, around here, they are mostly used to just to see line, not attract bait fish. And yes, they do work as well, especially paired with the right line.

Clear lights work pretty good, but I have the most success with the green.

There are several fish attracting products that you submerge that advertise great results. They are green.

Green spectrum light attracts lots of micro-organsims....the base of the food chain.

Good tip on the green light!
I use a submersible halogen thats inside a glass tube.Sink it about 3 feet deep and watch the bait fish circle it.Crappie madness..:D

I have had that light for years and wish i could find another one just like it.

Thinking of building something with green LED lights now..;)

Just a note to check state regs before using lights to attract fish. It's against the law here in Minnesota. That much I know. I have no idea about other states.

Underwater Lights....

I fish the Galveston Bay complex and the near offshore out to 20 miles in my 1975 20' Seacraft CC, and have looked into underwater LED lights for a while. I was going to go with the OceanLED Amphibians using (2) 3 light-LED units about 16 " on each side of motor. These were about 170-180 a piece.. BUT I decided on Atwood's 6 LED underwater light for 185 dollars. I installed 1 of them last week and it threw a 4' X 8' bright green illumination in the canal. Within 5 minutes you had tiny shrimp shad and what looked like krill swarming around. Another 5 minutes and larger shadowy shapes were patrolling the perimeter ( Big Croaker and Specks). We were casting TTK's and Saltwater Assassins and caught and released over 20 in about an hour. Installation was simple.. 1 3/8 hole- 2- #8 SS screws and some 5200. Ran it to a switch on the console. I ordered a second light yesterday and will install it Friday night before we head out on Sat morn. It should really light up with a set of (2) 6-LED's. Plus it looks pretty cool at night with a bright green rooster tail streaming out in back of you.;) So IMO flush mounted LED's are the ticket, and Here on the Texas Coast Green seems to be the color of choice. We fish the Jetties on summer nights and I cant wait to see the predators it attracts out there on the big water..
