I bought a used 20' Angler Center Console w/ 150HP Mercury Salt Water Optimax motor. The boat and moter are in excellent condition and i am happy with the boat. The only problem i have is that it seems to take a high speed (20- 23 mph) to get on plane. My marina insists i have the proper propeller.
Can anyone suggest what the problem might be?

Thanks.:)

Re: Getting 20' Angler to plane

20 MPH is probably about the minimum speed for your boat to plane. My 18' Bayliner wouldn't plane below 16 MPH, my 22' Crownline's minimum planing speed is about 20. Is the 20 MPH from a speedo or GPS? If it's a water pickup speedo, they are VERY inaccurate at low speeds.

Trim tabs (manual or Smart tabs) should help your boat plane at lower speeds.
