Just wondering if anybody has ever pumped the oil out of the pan by removing the oil filter and then disconnecting the coil so it won't start the engine and cranking it over until the oil is removed.?? I am going to buy an oil pump for the dipstick eventually but I wanted to get on the water today and don't want to have to wait. : )

Flame away!

Forget it, the oil has to go thru the oil filter to get to to the bearings. So, while you are exercising the starter while spinning the crank and cam on dry bearings, what do you think will happen.

Why don't you just go boating with the old oil?

I haven't been on this board all that long........but NOTHING surprises me!

Judging from those pictures....that oil has been in that engine a LONG time!

leaving it in a little longer isn't going to hurt much!

We'll putting the old oil back in would be a complete waste of time, I think.
Thanks, lmao

Just FYI it pumped it out no problem but this primer bulb is a little stiffer than most and I think that gave it the strength to do it; and I ran the motor shortly to warm it first.

Thanks fellas, I knew I should have changed it last season.

Happy boating, another fun summer starting up.

I use a drill pump from Napa...made by Balkamp,It pumps the oil out in about a minute.
Its similar to this Sears pump. You want to use thick hose on the suction side or it will suck the hose flat.
The Balkamp pump is much better made than the Sears junk but this gives you an idea of what it looks like.

My olden engine doesn't have the fancy smancy dipstick dip tube so I just drain the oil into the bilge and let it run out the bilge drain.

Running 20-50 in the old chev here.

I installed a pan drain in mine that would normally be pulled out the transom drain but won't fit. I still use a vacuum pump on the hose though...... Hot or cold, it'll drain the pan in about 1-2 min.

I use xxxxxxx oil....and a ZZZZz filter (it's classified. :p If I tell you I gotta kill you).....Besides this isn't an "oil thread"........Of course just mentioning oil turns it into one right?

why not just connect an air hose to the crankcase vent... make sure have solid caps on the oil fill and then push it out the dipstick?

Weve been using a cheap vacuum pump from harbor freight to change the oil in ours. Once we fixed everything that was wrong with it(cheap), it works great. Takes around 5-10min to suck 5-6 quarts out of our Volvos. :)

Also use it on the Generator and Jet ski.

VERY BAD JUJU! That would be a good way to destroy regular oil seals....

Why not just flip the boat over and let gravity drain the oil? :)

Oh, c'mon, those seals will take at least 40 or 50 psi....

No way near that much psi on the seals, oil pan gaskets,ect..
The pressure is on the crankshaft bearings and other components.

why not just use your shop vac to suck it out through the dipstick hole. adapt the hose down to the right size. :p:D

Heck, if you blow the seals out, then you don't have to worry aobut changing the oil anymore anyhow... problem solved, just keep refilling it and you're good to go - continuous oil change...

I love the turn it over to drain it out... how do you keep from dumping the gass out too?

and no doubt the shop would work as well - isn't it just a vacuum pump at that point?

On a more serious note, I strongly prefer to drain mine out the bottom... so I can see for sure that there's not any chunks of anything there... I've used a vacuum pump before in a pinch, but currently have a hose installed in place of the drain plug. I slip it out through the bilge drain plug hole and fill up a couple of milk jugs...
