C-Hawk Drain Plug Question....

Hi,

This probably seems like a dumb question -and one with an easy answer once I put the boat in the water- but here goes; I recently boat a 1991, 18' C-Hawk, Center Console (with a '91 100hp Evinrude) and it has the typical transom drains with the flip covers -no problem- but there is a hole on the bottom of the rear hull and there isn't a plug in it. Now I would think that this is where a drain plug goes, but the prvious owner insists he's never put one in it so I'm not sure.

This is my first center console I've owned and the previous tri-hulls I've had (glaspars) always had a drain plug in them. Any ideas?

One other question too -any thoughts as to where I might get a hull schematic for this model? C-Hawk seems to have been out of business for a few years and several searches on the Internet haven't turned anything up.

Thanks,

-Carl

Is it by chance a scupper drain? If you look in, do you see a ball or flapper? You could put some water in the bilge and see if it drains and then use a garden hose and see if you can squirt water in as well. Just a thought.....

Carl, Most boats self bailing or not have a 1/2" pipe plug that fits into the "garboard drain" located at the very bottom of the hull in the stern. I would think your boat should have this plug. If it is not installed the boat will likely sink, or at least float very low in the water.

Chris (et all),

Thank-you for the responses and that is what I thought -most boats have a drain plug so that is why I was surprised to hear the former owner had never used one.

I posted a couple of links to the pictures below of the stern showing what I was speaking about. One thing I hadn't noticed before is screw type plug right above the hole I was speaking of. I'll try the trick with the hose and see what's what...

I would think you definately need a plug in that one, without it the space below decks and between stringers is filling with water.

I agree, that looks like a typical spot for a snap in plug from the inside. Can you get to the inside? I have seen people put snap in plugs from the outside, however I always thought that was unwise. They have the rubber plugs that twist to tighten. Maybe that is what is needed.

Are those painted metal thingsa under the OB zinc anodes? If so, they should not be painted. If they are part of the motor, they should not be bottom painted with copper bottom paint or they will corrode badly
