2007 merc 90 hp 4/s cylinder 4 full of fuel.

I have a 2007 merc 4 stroke outboard w/85 hours on it.
It on a 22 ft pontoon boat w/a top speed of 22mph..yea..

I use it in salt water in Tampa Bay area.

I was doing my usual canal boating at maybe 5mph.

Motor skipped a few times and stoped cold. Tried to recrank motor and a minute later sounded like battery was dead.

Took off cover and smelled gas. Saw gas pouring out of what I was told was a spark arrestor in front of engine.

Machanic came and found cylinder 4 was flooded with gas.
So much, we could not crank motor at all.

He took plug 4 out, placed a bucket near it, he cranked and the gas just came out like a hose was turned on. In the bucket was black spots that he said were carbon deposits. There was a LOT of carbon in the bucket. He tried to start motor and it ran very ruff. It ran but not well at all. Smoke out of prop, gas in water. He said comp was perfect on all cylinders. He left to get new plugs and spark arrestor and has been gone a week so far.

The cause is not yet known. I was told NOT TO BUY MERC but, did I pay attention.....

Any clues....PLEASE...

There is a FIX comming. A second motor from Merc with same serial # range failed at same dealer.

Don't know exact part name yet, BUT it appears a hose in what the teck called an on board FUEL TANK. There is a rubber (plastic?) fuel hose that was CORRODED. BOTH HOSES BOTH MOTORS SAME PLACE. Merc trying to say its the fuel being used....BULL S**T. Its a bad manufactured part (hose). Will update when exact part is ordered and installed.

I have a 2007 8HP 4/S (think it is 1 Cylinder) and have not had any problems but am curious to know what Mercury's final decision will be - my gut tells me that you are right and we all may be in for a costly replacement but if would be good to know...Keep us posted.
