new 69 6hp water pump kit?

ok thanks to all who respond to my questions about this motor.... anyways heres my ? i ordered a new water pump kit for my 1969 6hp evinrude but it looks nothing like the one i pulled off..... the new one has a smaller impeller that fits into a metal piece that fits intot he impeller housing can anyone shine some light if they changed this... or know if this will work i will have pics later to show the two different pumps

Yes, it is true. The original pump has been replaced by the plastic pump with a stainless liner. The change was made around 1970-something-ish. It is a better pump. Go ahead and install it. Most all newer motors have similar style pumps.

One precaution: Running it when the pump is not working can melt the pump. That shouldn't happen under normal conditions. But watch it if running in real weedy or trashy water or a bucket.

thanks F R also it did not come with an oil retainer seal, i ordered one ecause my old one did not have one on the bottom is this ok to install as well with the newer style pump im guessing so since it sit under the gasket and the imperller plate

You are speaking of the drive shaft seal? Sure, it is ok. It goes in the bearing plate under the pump, and there is no change to that.
