I was looking into getting all my bellows replaced on my 85 MR outdrive serial number 6886314 and was getting quotes from 560 to 1200 worse case they said.

well came home today and kicked the trim up ALL the way so I could see the bellows good.

like I remember I saw a tear towards the front of one of the 3 bellows..well unless I'm missing something here thi bellow with a tear in it I can replace without taking the foot off.

It's the bottom bellow, below the shift cable bellow which is slightly above it and to the right, then there is a very LARGE bellow.

the shift bellow and large bellow look NEW. So, I called my uncle who I bought the boat from and he said yes that a couple years ago he had a guy replace the shift cable and the main LARGE bellow...but he wasn't sure about the bottom one that is cracked up and torn.

to me looks like the large bellow and shift cable bellow are fine no cracks or anything that I can see.

however, like I said the bottom one is cracked up and torn at the front..I should be able to replace this one without taking the drive off correct? I will just need to go through the hole in the outdrive to get the wire clamp screw....simple enough.

I think I'll go that route and next winter redo it all and while the outdrive is off refinish it...I have all factory new MR outdrive decals..took me forever to find them I had to buy a piece at a time off ebay and from doug russell as I found them so can't wait to refinish it next year.

so amI correct on this? going to look for the part on iboats now..surely it shouldn't be more than $50 or so.

Ok guys tell me if I'm right on this...I THINK this is what I need to order looks like the bellow is called the exhaust bellows. This is the part I think I need if I go through iboats.

http://www.iboats.com/mall/partfind...gd_poid=110594&gd_row=22&**********=224499029

and also order the adhesive and if I go through iboats is http://www.iboats.com/Mercruiser_Be...8921660--**********.237996171--view_id.269038

ok that should be all I need correct?
thanks

tube is easier to install huh? hmm ok might go with the tube then.

Hmm maybe thats why the guy didn't replace the exhaust bellow, since it doesn't really matter like the u joint one.

won't it let water into the hull though? and have water where the transom sump area is?

also doesn't water pass through it and up through and out of my through hull exhaust flaps?

my exhaust is through hull exhuast.

If your saying you have true thru hull exaust then the Y pipe is removed or blocked off already, so the exaust boot it pointless

ah!! that makes sense now then!

I noticed my uncle was suprised to hear one of the bellows was cracked up and torn...since he paid for them to be professionally replaced like 2 years ago and he acted like he paid around 700 or for it.

but that makes sense now! the marine mechanic purposly didn't replace it since it's doing nothing haha, didn't think about that.

Hell I'll just leave it alone then. Only thing is even if thats correct on why the mechanic left it alone..when he had the foot off he just about had to have disconnected it anyway..looks like he woulda went ahead and replaced it since the foot had to come off anyway? thats the only thing I'm confused about.

the exhaust is def. through hull here's a pic.
