Sight guage for cooling water?

I have a Mercruiser 470 outdrive in a Crestliner boat. This is a new boat to me and I'm not well acquainted with outdrives. What bothers me is that on other boats I have owned, outboard and inboard, I can tell when the water pumps are working. I recently had an overheat on this engine and now wonder if it is possible to install a sight guage in the cooling hose that discharges into the overboard exhaust manfold. I would feel a lot better if I could see water flow. Anybody done this? If so what type of plastic tubing is ok with the heat?

I'll appreciate your thoughts

OK...I mave not seen a water pressure gauge. Do they screw into a threaded port or something?

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,....
I ain't got a 470,... Sorry to hear that you do,.. It's the least desirable of the Merc.s,..
But,... We'll help you get thru it,....;)
They're a Quirky little motor, that just Won't stand an Overheat situation...

I used some of this reinforced vinyl tubing to plumb my motor last year,...
It works out pretty Good,...
The biggest Issue doing it was the tubing closing in tight bends,... I stretched out a Spring,+ fed it thru the tubing to Stop it from collapsing....

Wow...what a pretty set-up. I have a hose that goes from the heat exchanger to the exhaust elbow and that is where I thought I could insert a clear plastic "window" in the hose, by just clamping it into the center of the hose. I wouldn't need to turn a corner. What do you think? What I don't know is where to look for such a clear tube that would take the heat. Any thoughts?
