Where is the tell tale on a 1962 7.5 Elgin. I replaced the impeller recently and I want to be sure I have water cycling through when I start it.

Don't have a clue. Don't know "which" Elgin you have, or who made it. But it certainly must have an above-water exhaust relief, and it certainly must blow water out with that exhaust. It would be a rare motor indeed that doesn't do that.

There are 2 holes side by side on the upper back of tghe cowling. I wasn't sure if the water should come out there with the exhaust, or if it would squirt out a pee hole somewhere else like a newer mercury I have.

Thanks.

Re: 1962 7.5 Elgin 2 stroke cooling water

I have a little water spritzing out when I get it running. It's not very much though and it seems to remain at a certain temp. I thought I'd make a couple gaskets to put at the base of each (there are two impellers) impeller housing and it didn't work. I got no water coming out now and it heats up quick.

I'll be taking them back off. My question now is, how much water should I expect to be coming out with the above water exhaust?

Just a spray or droplets. It is just whatever blows out. Most of it goes out with the underwater exhaust.

BTW, your motor was made by McCulloch. It helps to know that when looking for parts or asking questions.
