I have a 1986 wellcraft 190 american with a merc 170. I've noticed that in the beginning of the day shifting is fine. But later on in the day when the boat is in foward gear, and you try to put it in neutral it stays in foward, and you have to play with it to get it into neutral. and its confusing because i just has the bellows and shift cable replaced last season. any suggestions??:(

If it's a new cable, it's not adjusted properly.

Idle should be between 650-700 to shift correctly.

If it isn't, and you cant get it to idle right, you need a carb cleaning.

Is it a new cable if yes needs adjusting, Don s just posted that.

If your idleing to high anything over 650-700 could be that. jason just posted that.

Only you know.
