I would strongly suggest you order a full sized paper template from your local Volvo dealer, the PN is 7745528 (same as the pdf file I posted) then use it to put on your transom. Especially for drilling the holes for the studs for bolting the transom shield on. They all have to be exact or you will have one ell of a time getting the transom shield on. And be sure to use a drill guide to make certain those holes are absolutely square.
I have a Volvo installation manual that I will upload and link you to. It explains how to make the cutout a lot better than the Merc manual.

Ayuh,...

Basically,...
A Manufacturer would pop a hull out of a mold,+ build a boat...
After Testing, if the X dimention is deemed to Low, or to High,...
They would move the transom cut-out either higher, or lower on future hulls.......

In other words,....
It means absolutely Nothing to you....

yeah,,, thats what i thought it was......they are just playing with the cav plate height for less drag.

thanks for the info guys......i have a few calls in for a jig from vector boats....(they make the oke mannerfelt bat boat)......

IF....i can get my hands on that....the bolt holes will be squair....

it's not so much that. And alot of people call that the cavitation plate... but thats not the correct name for it. It is really called an antiventilaion plate. It's to keep the prop from ventilating when the boat is on plane. If you don't get it the correct height, every time you get the boat up on plane the prop is going to blow out. And after all that work you certainly don't want that. It's not so much the drag of the plate, its the plates ability to keep solid water down on the prop.
