'90 40 'Rude, trying to get the tach to work long enough to get the right prop on this thing. Rectifier is good, tach is good, only getting 1 to 2 volts AC on the gray wire at 1/3 throttle. The book says it needs 6v to work the tach. What is the verdict? Bad stator maybe? :(

does the needle on the tach go to 0 when you turn the key. When you turn the key, but don't go all the wya to start it. If it is, that means it is getting power, but not getting a reading from the engine.

The needle zeros when the switch is turned on. The rectifier checks good, I'm thinking its the stator because I'm not getting much of a charge at the battery. I just talked to an OMC cert. tech and he is going to look at it tomorrow. I'll let you know what I find out.

I had the same tach problem on mine, but it was the rectifier, because it was not charging up the batery when running. Is your battery getting charged?
