help!! mercury 7.5 carb problem

I think the choke is not working I can squirt a little gas into carb and the motor runs If I try to start with using choke nothing. The motor is a 1973 mercury 7.5hp. Need help want to go fishing. Gary T

If the choke lever is working the lowspeed circurt in the carb is plugged

Gary, make sure the float level is correct and that the idle pickup tube item #22 is clean.

Laddies thanks for your help got it running today. When I pulled the main feed that goes into the venturi it fell out and was stopping the chock butter fly from closing correctly put it back and it started on the second pull.
