Optimax 200s, what causes the lower seals to go out? Is there some operating procedures that would help them last longer?

thanks

Dwight, What seals went bad? The propshaft seals usually last a long time, unless fishing line gets under the prop. The seals on the water pump base are easily replaceable.

Re: Lower unit seals

The lower unit had water in it, so I would assume the shaft seals. Unless that same thing would happen with the water pump seals.

Foot, The waterpump base has a driveshaft seal, a gasket and an Oring, to keep the warter out. I would change those first, since it is way cheaper and easier. Also, make sure the drain and fill plugs have gaskets on 'em.
