Hi everyone,

I have a 1990 bayliner capri with 1990 90 hp Force outboard motor(906X90C)

The symptoms: the motor looses a lot of power after 30 mins of running and it does this hiccup (1 or two cylinder try to start again)

I cleaned the Carburetor, Fuel Tank, replaced Fuel Filter and NGK plugs Then I put it in water 2 more times and it did the same thing. It was not overheating. One sparkplug (cd module1) seems clean and drier than the other two (both in cd module 2)

Some said the CD Module has gone bad. And I noticed the ?suppose to be bad? CD is seems older.

Should I replace the CD Module or I should do more tests?
Is the CD module connecting to trigger housing? Should I open the fly wheel and test the coils in there?
Any other advices? Please and thank you

Sincerely,

Can you describe what you mean by one or two cylinder try to start again? Does the engine stop running during the power loss or does it loose two cylinders and then pick them back up and go for awhile?
Are there any other problems while it is running for the 30 minutes that you mention?
Have you checked compression, for spark on each cylinder, for air leaks in fuel line, is the squeeze ball staying tight in the fuel line?
Are the carbs tuned correctly?
Rebuilt your fuel pump?
Checked for loose or bad wiring? max!

yeah it ran great for 30 min then ran very slow. it could not plane. than I changed the sparkplugs and all the fuel and filter. Then took it for a test run but it did the exact same thing (great for the first 30 min). I think could it be when it getting hot some thing short out?

sounds like the coil is failing.

You need to determine if it is losing spark when this condition occurs.
then you need to determine which plugs are losing spark.
Then swap the coil from the plug that is missing, with the coil from a plug that is still working.

Now test again and see if the problem followed the coil, or stayed on the original missing cylinder.

If it followed the coil, the coil is the problem.
