1973 evinrude 50hp bearing carrier stuck

I can't get the prop shaft bearing carrier to budge and yes I did take out the four bolts that hold it in. I have a flywheel puller mounted and have gently heated the housing as per the manuel. I have cleaned around where the housing and the carrier meet and have been soaking it in penetrating oil. Any Ideas.

Salt water motor? I've had to destroy them to get them out. Anyway, it probably is sticking mostly at the outer end of the "spool", so concentrate your efforts there.

have you tried applying heat? I read some where on this site that propane and map gas will not get hot enough to melt the aluminum casting. but do it at your own risk. I would put a good amount of pressure on it with the puller and start heating, it should pop lose. I have to add that I have never removed a bearing carrier, Its just what I would try if I was in your predicament.

I don't think it was used much in salt water if it was the housing and carrier don't look corroded I will keep heating and working on it fyi larky mapp and propane can melt aluminum so you have to be careful on a lower end housing it may disipate the heat fast enough that it couldn't melt it because of it size but i bet if you held the torch in one place for to long it would.

Aha, so it was used in salt water! If as a last resort you are forced to destroy the carrier, drill a couple of holes through the outer rim and break a section of the rim out. That will allow the remainder to expand (un-expand?) inward and loosen up in the case. A broken carrier is cheaper than a gearcase.
