While trying to rebuild the carb on this 3hp outboard I broke the carb bowel plug. This plug has 1/4x20 threads for the bowel, however, the inside of the plug is hollow and threaded to receive the high speed needle. This high speed needle seats into the orfice of the high speed jet and is then backed off about 3/4 of a turn and left alone unless the carb gums up or something of the like. In trying to replace the plug I am being told that this is not a OEM part it is something someone has built to lean the high speed jet. Does anyone know what I am talking about or have any info that might help me get this part? Thank you, Lwood

Actually, yes I do know what you are talking about. It is an accessory kit for people that just cannot stand not having something to fiddle with. The motor originally came with a fixed high speed jet orfice plug. You are talking about part number 309791 Screw Plug, high speed adjustment. Toss that number out to a dealer and see what he says. If all else fails, go back to the original orfice and bowl plug.

Re: 1965 evinrude yatchtwin model 3532A

Thank you for the part information. I have tried the part or jet I obtained from a dealer and plugged the hole in the bowel of the carb with a fiber washer and a 1/4x20 bolt. The motor starts and immediately stops. I also notice fuel at the throat of the carb leading me to believe that it is still too rich to run. I have found another carb on e-bay and I am waiting for it to come in. It is off from an early model and has an adjustable high speed jet, thought I might try it. The dealer I obtained the jet from told me to forget the adjustable stuff and go with the jet and plug as the adjustable set up was home made. What might be the part number for the original high speed jet. The number that was on the jet itself was A29, the number that is on the jet with the adj. needle is A34. Thanks for you help.

Re: 1965 evinrude yatchtwin model 3532A

put the carb back together for this 3hp evinrude. The replacement carb had the no. 029 high speed jet and just a 1/4x20 plug. The engine started right away but did not want to run. In reading several articles about these little evinrude engines the screen in front of the carb and the silencer tube have been said to be optional in some cases and not in others. I desided to put the screen and muffler back on and found the the engine runs fine highspeed wise but somewhat rough at idle. I have played with the low speed jet and have had some success, however, the engine still wants to sputter and miss at low speed. Any ideas ? What might the compression be for this engine ? Thanks for you time and info.
