Since I have everything apart and am getting ready to install a rebuilt engine, should I take the exhaust manifolds/risers apart and inspect and replace the gaskets? They look good without any signs of leaking... The boat has about 300 hours on it... I don't want to do it if uneccesary...

I took them apart and cleaned the old gaskets off... That was a chore... The mating surfaces look nice after I got all of the gasket material off... What kind of gasket sealent do you use on them? I have some VersaChem Gasket Sealent/Super Tack. Can I use it?

They look good to me. In fact, that's about as good as they can look. Check them to make sure they're flat and run a tap into the threads to clean them up (be careful not to bottom the tap out and break it off). I use Permatex Hylomar HPF. I don't like the new metal coated gaskets that don't require sealant. While they seal just fine, they do so in such a small amount of the mating surface area that the rest of it degrades. I checked mine after a year because I never fully trusted the new gaskets when they came out. I went back to the old style with sealant after I saw what they were doing to the mating surfaces - YMMV...
