Need Mercury Marine Tech assistance.
I recently purchased used boat equipped with a 2004/2005 Mercury 90hp 2 Stroke outboard. I was advised the by the owner the boat had been sitting for approx. 6 months with 1/2 tank of fuel.
Before purchase I completed a compression check on the outboard and found all 3 cylinder @ 110 psi. I also completed a lower unit check and it appeared to be acceptable.
After the purchase I took the boat for a ride.
The motor hesitated and after feathering the throttle (high rpms) it ran fine. It appears to be a cold natured beast with approx. 5 -10 turn overs to start. While the engine is in nuetral the engine idles ruff and appears to be missing. The motor idles for approx. 2 minutes and then shuts off.
I have replaced all fuel lines, fuel filter, water/oil seperator, removed all old gas, new pump bulb, replaced all spark plugs and completely cleaned carbs -jets - seats etc..
The motor still sounds like it is missing at an idle and only will stay running at high rpms.
Any suggestions of how to fix this problem child?
..........................................Please advise............................................
Thanks

Welcome to iboats.
This needs to be up in the Mercury/Mariner outboard forum where it will go now.
Also, you have a PM.

sounds like you have done the right things. Might be worth doubechecking the carb work if you did it yourself. Maybe a setting is wrong or maybe forgot to install a part in one carb? Also is the bulb staying firm on the fuel line? If not, that would be a clue to the possible problem. Rough idle can be alot of little things. Just got to work thru them to see what it is.
