I placed some 5200 in the holes I have drilled on my transom as well as on the screws, is this the proper way of doing it?

Re: 5200 on screws

I think 4200 is the one to use. It cures in 24 hours where 5200 takes 1 week. Dont quote me on that though.

Re: 5200 on screws

How long before you can launch using 5200? Can I remove the screws in question and put 4200 or 5200 fast cure in instead? I need it ready to launch 2 days from now.
Thanks

Re: 5200 on screws

5200 becomes tack free in a couple of days, so you should be good to go. Full cure takes about a week, but if all you are doing is sealing some screws that shouldn't be an issue. FWIW - i quite using 5200 for sealing screw holes and now use 4200 or 4000uv. Not because 5200 isn't good...but because it is TOO good. Removing screws installed with 5200 can be a problem as it grips so well.

Re: 5200 on screws

Most folks use 4200 for screws etc as it is easy to remove. 5200 is usually used when you want to fill something permanently.

USe 5200 fast cure and the time is reduced to 24 hours.

Don't use 5200 on anything that will ever need to be removed or replaced. The only time I've used 5200 was when I replaced all my thru hull fittings with stainless.

I have used 5200 to seal stainless bolts that were later removed. It was coating the threads, and after 8 months, it wasn't much different from removing a nyloc nut.

Yup, same here
I think that the permanentness of 5200 is slightly overrated :)

I'd say Highly overstated (mostly by folks repeating what they've read/heard)!

The nice thing about the regular 5200 (slow cure) is that it has a chance to penetrate before it sets up. I use 5200 for everything.

Yeah, the permanentness (wow, spell check didn't catch that - I didn't think that was a word) is overrated, but it is still hands down the best sealer for such like this. To quote the Texas Pete hot sauce commercial - I put that stuff on everything.
