I just purchased a 1975 mercruiser 140 hp inboard 4 cylinder with a 2 barrel carb. Rochester is printed on the side of it with the numbers 7043184 1583.
the last owner messed with the carb before discovering that his problems came from a cracked distributor cap so now its all out of wack. I am hoping to find a tuning procedure for the carburetor as well as a timing procedure being as they may have changed it while switching out distributor caps. My problems im having with it: hard starting must pump and feather the throttle for some time to get it to idle and smooth out, also throttle response is poor, bogs relay bad and starts to flood when throttling up fast. Also there are 2 adjustments on the carb we have tried several positions to improve response with no luck if anyone knows or could find factory settings that would be great as well or any other info would be appreciated.

thank you all in advance

Make sure your choke is closing on a cold engine.Your dwell should be set at 29-31 timing is I believe 8BTDC. The two screws are air screws and need to be screwed in then backed out 1 1/2-2 1/2 turns to start then adjust in till it bogs then do the other. Do this multiple times till it idles right.Jerry
