I have an old (about 1973) 55hp chrysler. It starts right up the first time, but after it sits for a while it won't start again. It doesn't matter if it sits for 15 minutes or 2 hours. Any suggestions?

How long does it have to sit until it does restart?

Have you tried taking out the spark plugs and cleaning them? Then restarting them.

It usually takes about 4 hours to start again. I have taken the spark plugs out and cleaned them, but it still wouldn't start. Then the next day it starts right up.

We need some more information. When you say wont start you mean that the starter will crank the motor it just wont fire?

When you restart is the fuel primer bulb hard, soft or flat?

When you restart do you choke or not?

When plugs are pulled do they stink of gas?

Does this motor have one or two carbs?

Re: 55hp chrysler won't restart

the motor cranks fast yes
The bulbs for fuel med to hard
spark plugs yes have gas on them
I start out with no choking
then then I bring the boat home after a some time later it starts right up fast
I had the carb rebuild last year . The boat did sit for 2 years outside covered
The motor looks very clean inside to.

Have you check to see if, for some reason, the motor is not getting spark after it is warmed up? I don't understand how this is possible, but it is best to eliminate all the problems possible.
