How to adjust throttle/shift control?

This is a original Bayliner Capri controller on 1985 year boat. While inspecting and cleaning all connections i moved the screw barrel assembly connecting the cable too much in one direction. It sits behind the controller. Now the shifter has Neutral in about the 10 O'clock position instead of the 12 noon position. I need a description of how this control works, how it adjusts before I work on it to get it back to where it was. The other difference i noticed is that the WOT RPMs are higher now with it adjusted out like that which can't be good! I would just adjust it the other way but cannot remember how I moved it the first time....ARGGH!

Just move the barrel back.. same as you did to clean it..

Can you explain how exactly the system works, yes I can move it back but I want to know what effects moving it one way or the other. I want to learn the set up.

There are lots of different controls out there, and it's hard to tell where BL got yours from. Do you have a picture of what your's looks like?

I can get a pic later on today. It is the one that has one button under the handle which allows you to move the handle forward/reverse into gear from neutral. Black handle, red button. To advance throttle only you pull the handle in towards you and it releases the shift assembly for warming up the engine throttle only.

I think I readjusted it back to where its supposed to be today. But I still want to understand how it should work.

Someone gave me a link to the Teleflex page, and my controller is an MN model, one of their older series. That schematic and instructions for set up and changing out cables will be very helpful in maintaining this one.
