I had a problem with my 2006 40 2 stroke. I was in a slow no wake zone when my motor just quit. It ran fine just before that at higher rpm and speeds. I thought I was out of gas but my tank said 1/2 full. I have an external fuel/water separator filter that I just replaced. There was fuel in the the new filter. When I squeeze the primer ball I get no resistance or fuel coming out of the fuel line that connects to the motor. I added 3 galons of gas just to see if by chance the fuel gauge is not working. That did not help.
When I squeeze the primer ball and push the round ball on the fuel line motor connection no gas come out.
Any ideas?

try a new hose and primer bulb, if you have Fuel, and you pump the bulb, it should come out the end and the bulb goes hard, try the easy things first.

Thanks for the help....

The problem was the primer bulb. It was not what I thought though. The primer bulbs location was changed by the previous owner. He changed it so that the out put end of the bulb was pointing down and up close to the motor. The gas tank is located in the front hatch. (Pathfinder 15T) The primer bulb will not work with the output level or pointing down.
As soon as I held the output end up I was able to squeeze it and pump gas until I felt resistance. The motor started right up. I think the motors fuel pump is not powerful enough to pump the gas up hill for about 13 feet without having the gas draining back to the tank.

you may try adding the fuel line check valve thats found on the late 90's V6 motors , but yes 13 ft is a long run for that motor.

Correction to my motor problem.

It happened again today. Fuel starvation was the problem alright but not what I thought. I looked at the gas gauge and it read 1/2 tank. I could not pump any gas through the line using the bulb. I removed the gas line that connected to the anti siphon valve that goes into the tank output connection. It was dry and had no gas in it. My son was along and he has the 17t Pathfinder. He was tapping on the tank and he said it sounds empty. I then took the gas tank gauge off and looked down in the tank and sure enough it was empty. So the gas gauge was my main problem all along. It would not go lower then 1/2.
