OK. I'm trying to convince myself that I did the right think. Any thoughts on this boat? I found a lot of information on the Ranger line but nothing too specific on the actual 186 Reata.

I just placed a deposit on a 2008 Ranger 186 Reata w/150 Optimax. Did I do the right the thing? I could have had one with an E-Tec 150 or Yamaha F150, but decided to go the Optimax route instead.

I tried hard to research the best engine, but no matter where I went, I found as many folks touting the pros for anyone engine as the cons. So I went with the manufacturer who makes and sells the most. It was a tough decision and I was very close with going he E-tec route.

Here's some manufacture?s performance reports on similar Ranger hulls. All produce about the same top speed. The Optimax has a slight edge in best fuel economy. The Yamaha will be the quietest followed by the Evinrude. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the motors. It comes down to personal preference. I prefer 4-strokes, though holeshot is slower. I've owned many Mercury engines and all were good.
