My throttle control tends to stick when I have been running the boat in gear for a while. It is fine when I am just slowly motoring around, but once we get on it for a while, it is hard to get to nuetral and reverse. The cable was replaced recently and everything appears put together correclty. We just bought the boat a few months ago and this is our first boat. Please help.

could be your shift interupt isnt working. find the plate the shift cable joins on the engine. its an odd looking plate with 2 shift cables mounted to it. it should have a small switch with an arm and roller on it and 2 wires, with the engine running this switch should be activated by the tension on the cable when shifting out of gear, if it is but the motor doesnt "stumble" it could be faulty. try getting the engine to stumble by manually pushing on this switch while the engine is running. if it doesnt shut the engine down and disconnect the switch wires. use an ohm meter and measure the continuity between the 2 switch terminals while pressing on the arm it should be low, less then 1 ohm or close.

those cables need lubrication usually once a year. look it up under maintainance in your manual.

Ayuh,....

You're saying Throttle Cable,+ then describing the Shift Cable,.....

These is 2 very different Problems.....

Anyways,......
Cables are Non-servicable parts,.....
If the Cables are dragging,....
Replacement is the usual Repair......

When you follow the cable to the shift converter from the throttle, disconnect the lower shift cable that runs to the lower unit.

How does the throttle feel when you put it forward and reverse. Move easy?

Thats how you figure out what cable needs replacement.

Take one off the converter move the throttle, if it still sticks than take a different one off and put the other one back on.

Sorta like looking for the right key to a door lock, keep trying different ones on the key ring till you fine the right one.

Now you want to know what cable i think is bad? Lower shift cable to the drive.

But i haven't seen your boat.

This site sells cables, and stands bye what they sell.

Good luck !

Got me didn't he.

Thought it was all the same thread.

Why can't they start there own thread.

Wonder if after say a month or 2 they could auto. lock a thread so a dummy like me don't post a reply to someone who brings it back.

That way people could research a problem and not post to the thread.

Just wondering !
