battery disconnect switch

I plan to install a battery disconnect switch on my 14 foot runabout.Even though it never has had one I figure because the gasoline and electrical wires from the batterys and power supply box are so close to each other it will add a little extra safety just in case a wire comes loose or a battery moves. Any ideas on this like where should I place it? thanks

What good is that going to do if you leave the battery beside the gas?

Re: battery disconnect switch

I've heard some unusual reasons for doing certain things but this one is akin to getting a haircut because I have tooth ache.

Re: battery disconnect switch

It may be a waste of time but with the auto bilge pump wired in and the need for checking a posible loose conection if it happins away from shore the switch would quickly eliminate any possible spark etc while you check and resecure everything. Also if for some reason your generator goes out and you have to switch to another battery to restart and get back the disconnect switch will make things just a little bit safer untill you retighten the battery cables. For a cost of only several bucks and a little time why not?

Go ahead and get that haircut, no reason your teeth shouldn't be managed for your comfort. Get a simple ON/OFF switch and mount it as close to the battery as is reasonable ...
