Symptom of water separator

I have a water fuel separator newly installed and have about 35 gallons through it. Yesterday she started fine and idled, when I ran her WOT for about 3 minutes, she died. She started right up and idled. Ran her again at WOT for about 3 minutes and she again died. This repeated four times. On the fifth run she ran fine and did so for the rest of the day. She sat for two weeks prior to this. I was wondering if this was a symptom of the fuel/water separator being full. I just had the carbs rebuilt when I installed the separator and didn't notice any unburned fuel in the water.

1992 85 HP Evinrude, built in tank. What kind of fuel restriction, and where did it go? How does it get by the two filters?

Sounds like water in the filter.Change filter and retest.Or pour it out in a glass jar and see what it looks like.
Double check all your lines for leakage.
Does the primer ball pump up firm?

The primer ball does pump up firm and stays . The other thing that maybe important, was it was a very cold morning. 33 degrees I also closed the vents on the side of the boat after filling her up. I did open them after experiencing the stalling , could that have been the cause not getting enough air thru the vents? All the lines were replaced when I installed the filter.

If you are refering to fuel tank vents, then that was probably the issue creating a vacuum in the tank. If you are refering to bilge vents, then you'll need to dig deeper to find the issue.
Good luck

Yes the two vents for the fuel tank that are on the outside of the boat. I open them all the way when refueling so I don't get blowback, then guess at where they should be for the best operation. I guess maybe this time I didn't guess so well.

If the bulb did not collapse, the problem is downstream of the bulb, not at the tank.

Just to add my two pennies----if you have the separator type with a glass/plastic bowl at the bottom, you can see if there is any water--otherwise, (as said) dump it into a clean glass jar. Also, make sure the lines are hooked up properly and that the seal is tight----some models have two inlets and two outlets---easy to get mixed up. Another thought, you can temporarily hook up a clear plastic fuel line from the bulb to the motor and watch the fuel flow as you run the motor----look for bubbles, water, etc. ONLY for a short time.

When my 175 was new, it acted something like yours----after going crazy, it was the internal (cone type) filter-----couldn't see any junk, but it continued to run fine after I had it replaced.
