Anybody know of a good site where I could post info on an antique 6 shooter that I have, and get feedback as to how to identify it?

I would love to, but my (very cheap) camera no longer works. I can tell you this much;

Its really pitted and there arent much for markings to go on other than it says "Texas Ranger for 38 S&W Special C(T?)G(F?)S" on the 6" barrel. It also says "Cal 38 L" above the trigger. It has what looks like some kind of brown bone or antler in the pistol grip, with an emblem depicting an elk or large buck on the grip as well. I was under the impression that it was a Smith & Wesson 38 special made for the Texas Rangers a very long time ago, but my research has turned up nothing to support my theory. I havent found a revolver that looks like this one in my searches, nor have I found any proof that S&W made any revolvers for the Texas Rangers. Any thoughts?

It works if you take the " " quotes off both ends. I just tried it and it worked fine. Copy and paste it into your address bar without the quotes. If you look at the photos and read you will see that the 38 special was not developed until 1899.

.38 S & W Special cartridge was introduced in 1902. TEXAS RANGER revolver was a Belgian copy of Spanish EIBAR Model 1929 revolver, made sometimes in 1930s. Nobody know manufacturer(s) of these Belgian "pirate copies". Engraving or stamping of the factory brand on the firearms was not mandatory in Belgium.

Dang if that aint it, except this one has the bone grips. I guess the history was a little off.

I am wondering if you could give me some information on a pistol? It is an older .38 caliber and the marking on the barrel is: TEXAS RANGER FOR 38 S & W SPECIAL CTGES. On the underside of the barrel it is stamped BELGIUM. The other side of the frame is stamped 38 W. The pistol is both single and double action. I know that Smith & Wesson 38 Special cartridges were not developed until 1899. I have attached two pictures of the pistol. Any information would be helpful.

SIMONIS, CENTAURE and some others) were proud enough to tell: "We've done this gun!" There were presumably hundreds of small workshops, especially around the township of Li?ge, producing cheap handguns and shotguns, usually unlicenced cheap copies from the firearms of better quality, or just the parts of these unmarked guns.

Yes Aspeck, thats the one. I posted my reply just before you got yours on. Its 30 something years newer than I had figured by the stories I had been told. Its a Belgian knockoff, but at least I know what it is now.

I have a firing replica of the 1857 navy 36 cal colt.......You can buy them new all day long for aprox 150 bucks or less. still alot of fun to shoot.

Not bad right now, they say she's gonna get bumpy tomorrow, though. Won't be the first time. That .38 don't look that bad from the outside, might still be a good shooter if the inside isn't pitted too bad. Be careful with it, though, if you load your own don't go pushing it, I'd try her out with a light wadcutter load just in case she blows up

The 38 will probably never fire another round, shes pretty bad off and missing the hammer. Its just a family heirloom, it was my wifes great-grandfathers. I wanted to identify exactly what it was, is all.

The storm is at the doorstep now as of 3 pm, rain and light wind has set in. Batten down as you are damn near the path its taking, should get the funnel effect as it sweeps in from the bay and hits you. Yeah, wouldnt be the first time we get to see some nasty weather, at least it aint a blizzard.

Take care and keep the generator full of gas and oil.

If the gun is that old it may not be a repilica, Only a gunsmith with the knowledge can give you a true value for it. Most modern replicas are made in spain(very cheap) and Italy ( cheap but better than those made in spain)

It is stamped Belgium on the underside of the barrel, like the article states so its more than likely one of those Belgian knock-offs. An upper-level knock-off though, as it has the bone pistol grips.

You might be able to find a hammer to fit that.... have you tried "http://www.gunpartscorp.com/" and maybe find some parts. Even if it is a "non firing" piece it would be nice to see it complete.
