I am going to be posting quite a bit sincce I just got this boat with these engines. Anyways, how are the check valves that are each one of the 2-stroke oil oil lines suppose to work. I took one of them of to and I cant blow in either direction, but I can suck air if I do it by where the oil exits the valve. Is this right, does these check valve have to have suction from the intake to let the oil pass through. Also I clean out the main and engine oil tanks and replaced the filter on the main tank. Filled with Yamalube and it seem that now it smokes less than before. I know that the previous owner use to use cheap oil and when I brought it home and ran the engines it smoked alot. Now it smokes less with the Yamalube you can bearlly see any smoke coming out. Thanks

You should include the year and model of the motor in every thread. The check valves keep the oil from draining back to the oil pump and oil tank. Do you have the transparent oil lines where they enter the engine? If you do, you should see the oil in them when the motor is off. The Yamalube has that distinctive color.

Re: 2-Stroke oil check valve?

Excuse me for hijacking the thread. I tried to start a seperate thread about this, but for some reason the site keeps kicking me off. I have a similar problem with an '87 Excel 2.6L. Oil consumption is high and gradually increasing. It was smoking little heavy this AM and at the end of the day,at idle, it looked like it was on fire. Any help appreciated.

An 87 Excell is a Yamaha model number. The problem with it is more likely a problem with the engine mounted tank sensor or oil control module which causes the tank to overfill and the excess to be dumped into the air box.

V6 EXCEL LH or V6 EXCEL XH are the correct model numbers for a 1987 motor. What kind of oil are you using (Dhawk)? I would suggest Yamalube.
