I have a 1998 5.0. I was just reading on ebay looking for new exhaust manifolds( for my winter project) that I should be using an open riser gasket and not the restricted. Restricted is what came on the engine when I got it. Was wondering which one I should have in it. Thanks in advance.

I was wondering the same thing when I was ready to order mine and was told restricted for stern drive and open for inboard. I ordered restricted and the ones I replaced were also restricted.

Well if I read that bulletin right. Since I do not have a hose hooked up to the riser I should be running the FULL or OPEN gasket not the restricted. Am I right? Am I hurting anything with running it restricted right now. Boat has had maybe 10 hrs on it since engine was put in. Plan on maybe another 5-10 before it gets put to bed for the winter.

Give me a few minutes and I will see if anything will go wrong in that time.

Found the same thing on my '97 350 this spring. The only difference I could detect was the tops of the elbows seem to run a little cooler via palm of hand method.
