How/Where to get rid of an unwanted Hull

I am considering buying a package deal hull/engine/trailer. CHEAP
Hull is not worth fixing (old 19 foot speed boat that had a inboard v8 converted to a O/B with a rotten floor, seats etc...)
Engine is a 77 Chrysler 120hp
Stainless trailer in good condition.

I want to buy the package strip the good parts from it (engine - o/b mount - new steering - gauges) and get rid of the hull.

Where - how (if you live in Southern Ontario you can be specific) can you get rid of an old hull?
Would be great if it was easy to break up to put in truck and haul it to dump but breaking it up would be a huge job wouldn't it?
Any assistance would be great and appreciated.

Well not sure if the dump would take it but if its fiberglass a Sawzall will rip right thru it or a demo saw from the local rent-a-center.

Sawzall, Circ saw, respirator, and a few hours labor.

Or call the landfills and see if they will accept it.

Stainless Steel trailer?? Are you sure?? Never heard of such a thing.

Galvanized maybe?

or aluminum trailer. our land fill will take boats as long as the gas tank has been removed. just tow it there, push it off the trailer, and pay the man. then the bull dozer runs over it.

Yep, I usually see a hull or two at the landfill whenever I have to go there.

I live in Idaho along the Washington border. My local dump charges by the cubic yard, so a 17' runabout was going to cost $300 - 400 to dump! Took it across the river to Washington where they charge by weight and it cost me $16 - and that's full of waterlogged foam!

Check neighboring counties if your local dump won't work with you.

Cut it up into 6" square pieces, burn it or whatever you have to do to totally destroy it.
Otherwise it will end up here on Iboats as another "Can't believe my luck found this boat for free, just needs a little work and now I need help fixing it up and how do I get a title for it?" thread.

Hmmmm......

How about floating it out on the water, spill a few gallons of gas, burn the hull to the waterline. Then call the insurance company....

Its called insurance fraud, just to be clear....

It's more fun to watch the bulldozer run over it at the landfill...check with your local facility.

haha you guys are great. Thanks for the quick responses.

Yes Galvanized not stainless, I must have really been out of it when I posted. 1st wrong forum and then that.

I wasn't sure how easy it would cut up and taking to the landfill all together I have no idea how I would dump it into the bin. I guess for large stuff they would just let me push it off and they would pick it up to move it as necessary. My dad worked alot with fiberglass way back and looked at it and said it would take alot of work/blades etc..... to cut it up. His 1st idea was crushing it with a dozer and throwing it in the back of a truck. Only thing is I don't have a dozer in the back yard lol.

Roll it on down to Detroit and take a long lunch. On second thought, they would probably take your truck too.

Ebay is always a good way to get rid of your junk. Write an honest add, and you might be surprised how much $ someone will pay you for your junk. If Ebay does not work, then you can go the bulldozer or dump route.

I'm not sure the 120hp chrysler would be worth the effort even if it was free.

No experiance at all with the Chrysler motor.
He said the power pack had failed on it and then it was parked. It sure looks like a MONSTER in size even for a 120. Are they pretty prone to issues? I figured I maybe able to get it running and sell it for a few bucks or sell it for parts.

I am looking at it and paying $200-300 max. Heck the trailer is worth $800 easy.
Getting rid of the hull is my concern.

Most single axle galv. trailers are worth 300 - 400. NADA rates them at 250 - 350.

Re: How/Where to get rid of an unwanted Hull

I look at prices and comments people make about boats being junk etc... and I am suprised. Looking at things further I have realized that in Canada or Southern Ontario at least boats and trailers are much more expensive than they are in many regions in the US.

If you were to look online in Ontario you would find very few trailers for sale new you can buy them starting at $900 or so.
If you found one it would likely be $600 and up for anything that would do a 15 ft Runabout and up from there and who knows it likley needs tires, spare, bearings etc......

Here is a link for the trader searching for boats from 0-3500 in Ontario

http://www.trader.ca/search/Results...&mknm=-1&mdnm=&subcategory=601&alpha=-1&CAT=6

Even the 77 Johnson 75Hp Stinger will go for $800 or so if running and good condition.
