put new pump in 9,9 johnson will not pump out pee hole get no exhaust out of idle relife. pump works when lower unit bolts are backed off exhaust comes out oround bolts. this engine got hot. dont seam to be missing . have had pump off 4 or 5 times .

remove the pee hose, and get the mud out of it. did you line up the water tube when installing.

water will go come out pee hole when engine off with pump hooked up with 3/8 hose runing pump with drill. if i back off 6 bolts on lower unit exhaust comes out down there and water comes out pee hole.

Sounds to me that your water tube is either too long (bottoming in the pump), too short (not sealing water flow), or your missing a seal for the water tube (top or bottom). From your symptoms and explanation, sounds to me like the tube is burying too deep into the pump housing restricting the flow. Make sure the tube is buried and sealed in the top end. I'm not familiar with that motor or I'd be more specific.

motor is 1993 9.9 johnson. what gets me is no exhaust out of idle relief.there seams to be engine smoke coming out of pee hole. have in barrel submerged past the pump.is there a gasket or something on power head that could have blowen to let the exhaust go in water chamber. this pump is working good i have put pumps in for 40 yrs never have had this.
