Sounds like the oil pump is not "giving it's all". This is just my opinion but you appear to have 3 choices.
1. Run it as is and fry your motor (not a good idea)
2. Disconnect oil pump and run on premix (never have pump problems again)
3. Do a teardown and rebuild on your lube system to see what the problem is and fix it up again.
My VRO system is still working flawlessly but there is always the nagging doubt that it could give up at any moment. I always carry enough spare 2 stroke oil for an entire tankfull in case I get the dreaded buzzer so I can premix in the tank to get back to base. I think that I will go completely premix for next season though just to put my mind at rest. A faulty warning buzzer and a failing pump would be extremely costly.
Many good threads about this subject in the frequently asked questions section.

"plenty of oil"

I assume you know how low the oil can go before the alarm is supposed to sound. Instructions for my '86 motor say mine will sound off upon reaching ? full.

I don't think the brand should make a difference. But if you're using oil not meant for a 2-stroke outboard motor ....
