Where can i find a wiring diagram for this motor...start, stop, choke, charging circuit? Did these motors have a generator?
Thanks

You can try your local library or buy a manual.

kencook.com has OEM manual reprints.

if it has a generator it would be very obvious. belt driven mounted opposite the starter. these motors had the starter solenoid and wiring connections mount on the inside of the transom. without it, it take a little ingenuity to wire them. i just did a 35 hp 1958. for starters to see if it is a viable motor to proceed with. check your compression and spark, can be done with the rope, or you can use jumper cables ground the motor to the neg post of battery, connect cable to pos post. now carefully touch the cable to the starter. it should engage the flywheel and spin the engine.

do you have the 2 line pressure tank for this motor? post back the results of the compression and spark test. spark should jump 3/8 inch.

Here's the wiring diagram for a '56 Johnson 30hp - same thing.

Diagram is great...thanks, but i did notice that it shows a 6 volt battery, This motor was restored by a guy in texas, has been gone thru...pics dont show a generator, thought it might be something I could add on.....I will have to ask him if it was converted to 12 volt. The pics show it was converted to single line fuel system.....

Unless you are planing on running lots of stuff you don't need a generator.
Original setup required a full sized regulator and output was low and required something like 2,000 rpm to develope.
We used to run our boat for 3 weeks or more with an inexpensive automotive battery without charging.lots of starts, lights at night.
Of course our 18 was easier to crank if battery was dead. But again the 30
while harder to pull should start as easy.
Your motor only requires a battery to crank and if right very little of that.

I actually pull started a '57 35 hp yesterday with no compression relief hooked up and it took 3 pulls when warm.

I may be wrong, but I don't think the generator was an option until '57. Course they were 12 volt by then. Scott or Frank would know for sure if they're around. Joe would know too if he's around.
