Id of Old Mercury Outboard

My son recently acquired an older boat with a 50 HP Mercury Outboard. Its an older engine needing a starter. The serial number on the shaft is A924675. I believe it is a 3 cyclinder (only see three spark plugs). Thank you for the help.

think its an 86, someone else will pipe in if i'm wrong.. merc parts express says this is the starter by that serial ,, 50- 44369A 1
