89 Merc 60 Tilt / trim problem.

I just purchased a boat with a 1989 60 hp Merc that has power tilt and trim. The guy I bought it from said that the tilt wont stay up when cruising, he said it doesnt go down right away, just after a couple of minutes. There are no external leaks in the system, so I suspect an internal valve may not be closing properly?? Any ideas or tips would be appreciated.

It's common for the center o-ring on the manual release valve to blow so thats were to start

Thank you for the reply Laddies. I was mistaken about the model year, it's an 88, does this make a difference? I have the owners manual as well as the installation manual for the motor, but I cant seem to find the manual release valve, can you tell me where it is? I purchased a Seloc manual and have determined that it is type A two piston type. The motor will come down all the way from maximum tilt in less than half an hour in my driveway.

I wish I could assist in your problem, but I cannot. I also have a 1989 merc 60 HP and am having trouble locating a wiring diagram for a tilt and trim setup. I bought the T & T used and now need to incorporate it into my power plant setup. Might you know where I can locate suxh specifications?
