hello to all I`ve been reading these forums for awhile and have learned very much, thanks to you all.Now the problem, I have a1980 model 150 that Ibought arebuilt powerhead for, while doing the carbs I noticed the new motor doesn`t have the nipples on the inspection port covers for the recirculation valves can I just put my old covers on there or do I not have the right motor? Iwould call the remanufacturer but it`s saturday. also should I change the recirc. valves? where can I get them? thanks

You should be able to use your by-pass covers. There are numbers cast into the cover and as long as your covers end in 000 or 001 they'll work.

Dhadley thanks for the reply, the new motors covers do end in000 and 001 but my old covers end in 561 and 562 they sure do look like they will fit though other than that the motor looks the same

Re: powerhead exchange problem

The depth is different from the gasket surface in to the tip of the deflector. Yours are the short ones from an earlier design that will work in any V6 crossflow. The powerhead you bought is (obviously) a newer one. The difference is very, very minor but if you put the long ones on an older block the tip will bottom out and hold the gasket surface away just far enough that the gasket won't seal.

Basically your will work fine.
