Need year of Johnson 7.5

Johnson 7.5 made in Canada, model#JR8C1C, what year is it? Short shaft. Good condition. Got it free. Have not started it yet. Any thoughts on what I should do to it? I am new to outboards.

Check the 1981 parts manual for the 7.5. The model number is close to what you gave:

I agree it's a 1981. What are you going to do with it? I am looking for a short shaft 1981 7.5 HP Johnson for parts to convert my long shaft to a short shaft.
