Been a tough year here in PA - Game Commission went to "Quality Deer Management" a few years ago, which translates to "Kill all the deer off and make the insurance companies and foresters happy." So, haven't seen too many deer, except on private ground. Haven't seen a legal buck yet!

Anyone doing any better than me?

LOL Yeah it has been bleak here too. I actually see more deer (doe only) in my yard than I have in the woods. VT went to increased management by only allowing 3 or more points last year.

There have been claims of an overall increase of 25% however in my area the kill is down 60%!

My rifle seemed to enjoy all the fresh air it was exposed to!

I think they're getting 10 deer tags this year around here. They need to be thinned out. You can't go 8 miles on any rural road without seeing roadkill.

Wisconsin has an incredibly large herd per usual. They have given us another gun hunt in December. We had over 650,000 hunters in the woods for the 9 day Season, with between 450-500,000 deer killed. We have lots of "Earn a Buck" zones where you need to shoot an antlerless deer first, then when you register it you get a Buck tag, that actually can be used for anything.

I filled my tag within the first 15 minutes of the Season. My uncle filled his soon after.

I do wish that it was this weekend though...........since now their is all sorts of snow cover.

Yea, Bob, 3 points on one side is required for a legal buck here. Used to see 20 - 40 deer a day, and on one occasion, 80!

Just got back from the woods again today. 7 days in the woods, I killed 2 doe so far, haven't seen a buck, let alone a legal one. The first 4 days of the season saw 2 deer total. Saw 7 the 5th day, 4 the 6th, and none today. Got appointments the rest of the week, so I will not be able to hunt (unless a couple hours morning or evening) till Friday. Then 2 more days and rifle season is over and I will have to wait till after Christmas for Flintlock Muzzleloader season.

My county in Virginia has a rifle season from Nov 18 'til the first Saturday in January.

Does and bucks are legal for all days.

New this year was a website and a code number so that I can check to see whether my carcass, or rather my bucks carcass, has CWD.

Also new this year is a contagious emaciating disease that is killing off a few deer. Several in the county so far, including one on my land. They are still investigating what the affliction is.

Too many deer around here, and deer densities like this just aren't normal.

On a brighter note, I'm going to hunt--by special lottery--Sika deer at Chincoteague Island NWR next weekend. Hunting at the beach should by interesting, and probably cold, too.
