Kids should not be allowed to play games that are anything less than all inclusive. How would you like it if some kid in the neighborhood could run faster, jump higher or lift more than your child. How would you explain to your child why the other kid is "better" at something then they are. Games which have a winner produce many more losers who in turn develop damaged self esteem.

Things need to be reduced to the lowest common denominator to protect our childrens self image and help them reach a healthy consensus among themselves. Remember, there's no "i" in "team".

A couple of years later, he joined JH and then the HS cross country teams. In my opinion, the best HS sport of them all. It's hard to argue your XC performance with a stop watch. Absolutely nothing subjective about it, and nobody has to tell them how well they did or did not perform, nor can anybody tell them they did well when they did not.

No kidding. I was a distance runner in high school. For the most part I didn't think of beating someone else, it was mostly about improving myself. I learned to see the relationship between the amount of pain I was willing to endure and the times on the stopwatch. It was not hard to tell if I did my best or not.

I ran in HS too i386. I would not change it for anything.

It truly is a "no pain, no gain" sport.

Re: No more Tag for kids

Does that mean I can sue the school for not properly educating my kids in "life skills" via playing tag?

Kids activities teach kids how to stand up for themselves.

Also,

Does that mean swings and slides should be removed?

Does that mean no more ball sports? I once saw two kids go to the hospitial from school after colliding going for a pop fly.

Doesnt anyone see the scarry trend here?

Slides should be removed(kidding). I remember falling off one in 1st grade. It knocked the wind out of me and I cried like a little girl......or boy, so I do not offend anyone. I can tell you that I learned to never screw around while standing atop the slide again.

The trend is that as long as schools are sued, they will try to protect themselves from it. Yes, somebody will lose. It is the age we now live.

BTW, life skills are something a student learns while in school, but they are not something schools are held accountable for.

Goes back to the PC thing. Don't want feelings hurt ya know. What is going to happen when these kids have to face the real world? That is what scares me. They won't know how to handle failure, why someone else got the job, got promoted...etc

Beyond rediculous. There's no hope.. I suppose if a kid decides to play any of those little kid games they'll get ....what.....suspended?:%

Haut, I dont agree with your "lawsuit fear" reasoning.

There are much more dangerous activities that are allowed to happen on the playground.

An injury from tag would result in a bruise at most.

Falling from a slide or swing can break something. My brother fell from a slide and broke his arm when he was young.

I'm not sure that the lawsuit thing is played a bit too much to cover up the real intention.

The real force behind banning dodgeball, and now tag is a PC concept.

Many in education are just not what I would call mainstream in their thinking.

Re: No more Tag for kids

Alden had me worried for a second there. The bad thing is there are way too many people out there that actually thinkg that way.

Banning tag, what will be next? I personally feel every child should play mandatory Dodgeball, with the little yellow Voit balls pumped up to 150 psi. Now that was the good ol' days. If you didn't leave the "Voit" insignia stamped in another kids forhead, you were not playin' right. The soccer thing is ridiculous as well. My friend has her oldest son in soccer, and they have to wear this wierd forhead padded jockstrap thing, because some knucklehead out there somewhere thinks the impact of a soccer ball causes brain damage. He told me they don't slide tackle or any of the good stuff. I played soccer when I was a kid, and I was always bleeding and limping after a game. Its no wonder kids want to sit and play x-box, society is trying to install labia on every kid out there....
