Where is a good place to buy u-joints for a 1986 4.3l mercruiser? My local shop is not really an option.

I have got them from Napa. Sierra makes them for Napa.
See if they can look them up in the marine parts book at the counter.

Just curious about not using the local dealer when buying parts.

Why not ?

The local dealer here has screwed me over too many times I would rather poke myself in the eye with a dagger than go back there. The stemtosern.com has helped out alot I just went to o'reilly and oredered some sierra ujoints for half the price the dealer wanted

Where are you having work on it? I can get you in contact with a guy here if you still need someone to do it.

I appreciate the offer but I'm just going to pull it out of the water and change them underneath a tree. It should only take about an hour but it'll probably take 3 or 4 with my luck.

Here's the correct formula:

Time you think it will take +50% x 2 = Time it really takes.

Get them at Napa, they are the same as mercruiser ones and a fraction of the cost. If it is a gen II alpha it uses the same ones as many cars, take your old ones in and match them up.

Napa was about 6 dollars cheaper than oreillys and the had a problem with me taking them back if they didn't fit. So I went with the 6 dollars insurance.

It's too bad you can't/don't trust your local dealer, but I see it alot, and understand.

And I don't have a problem with SIERRA parts,either.

But to go to aftermarket rather than original, and save $6 each doesn't go too far with me.Mercruiser doesn't make u-joints,but they do sell a quality GM part in their own packaging.
