Don't know if this is practiced in the U.S. so I'll give a quick description.

Dating back hundreds of years, young ladies were presented to the King (or Queen) of England at a massive gathering of wealthy people and perspective husbands. It was a polite way to introduce young ladies to the world of partners & marriage. These days, it's just an excuse to put on our 'sunday best' and have a party!!

Last weekend, my daughter had her debutante ball. Of course, she looked stunning (I'm not biased ;) ). The wife couldn't stop crying.

One for the boys (this is the limo we hired, 1929 dodge).

A lovely young lady Aldo. Quite regal and befitting such a 'coming out'. Although we Yanks are familiar with the concept I just don't think it is widely practiced in the US. But then what do I know, I'm just one of those uncultured Western Yanks. :D No Eastern Blue Blood here. :p

BTB, I love the car. Hope the horns work? :p But why does the concrete look wet? I thought that was a rare commodity DownUnder?

It had just started raining, but it didn't last long.

The dodge body & chassis had been fully (and meticulously) restored, then stretched. the owner has 4 of them and is contemplating building another two. The only fibreglass in the body is the 'stretched' panels. The running gear is 100% 2004 GM v8, 5 speed auto etc etc. Disc brakes all round.

Aldo

Cool limo Aldo. Surely that's not you escorting your daughter? She looks great, you have every right to be proud.

Alex has his end of school formal tomorrow night, but the Sydney Deb Balls are not 'til next month. Just got back home to find eggs all over the back fence (we share the back with the High School!). Hope I don't get busted for breaking water restrictions but I can't stand the stink of rotten eggs. Do you have Year 12 "muck-up" days in Mexico?

Yep, but it's not the same as it was in my day. Mostly they head for queensland for schoolies.

The boy on her arm is a friend of the family. He agreed to escort her, and he was the right height! (apparently that's important for the formal dances - don't ask me).

Great photos Aldo.
You must be very proud.
Yep, you'r right about 'schoolies week'. They all race up here and play up.
It is a major financial event for certain tourist areas. Where these kids get the bucks from, who knows, but it is a big injection of funds in to our State.
I'm still 6yrs away from my young fellow doing it.
Cheers
Phillip

Oh dear... bad luck KP, the Mexicans are coming your way. :) Alex has decided Schoolies is very 'yesterday' and he's off to Europe for Christmas etc. Phew! (After his 18th birthday party I don't think I want to know!)

There is something like that in the Deep South of the US I think, but not common elswhere here. Some call it a "Coming Out Party" I think.

Cool kid and car, Aldo!!

Where'd he find so many of them to restore? On one hand maybe the climate is kind to old cars? On the other I wonder what the state of the roads and hiways were, DownUnder, back in those days. Seems they might have been a bit rought on the old cars?

I don't know. I wondered the same thing but never got around to asking him.

Re: Debutante Ball

We have lunatics with too much money who import all sorts of cars and bikes into the country from all over the World. Gotta love those lunatics! I imported a "project" classic racing motorcycle in 1991 from the UK and haven't laid a spanner on it since. Yep... I joined the Confirmed Looney Club way back then! :)

This post should be moved to the society page. ;)
But I can only move it to the top of the page - and well worth another look. From great roots comes vintage wine.
