2002 Stingray 3.0 starter problem

I have a 2002 stingray 180LS. 3.0 Mercruiser. The boat just turned to 100 hours. When you turn the key, no noise, not even the click you might have if the solenoid was bad. It takes about five or six key turns then it fires up. I tightened all the connections and about to take to the marine mechanic to have a look at it. The problem is we only have one mechanic in the area and it will take several weeks to get the boat in. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Try having someone hold the key in start then tap on the solenoid and see if it starts. If it does the solenoid is bad and you need a starter. If not you will need a basic test light. Again while someone holds the key in start, check the small wire on the solenoid for power with the test light. if it has power, solenoid bad, if not need to check ignition switch or the neutral switch. good luck
