Re: 1966 starchief hull identification number

Hull Identification Numbers (HIN) were not mandatory until sometime in the early 70's (Nov 1971 I think). They would be on the transom. Look for the Starcraft ID plate as an alternative, it won't give the year but it has the boat serial number. Look on your paperwork from the state, it may have information on it also.
Her's my ID plate from the factory.

Mine is a 1970 or 1971 Starcraft. paperwork says 1971, Id plate seems to indicate 1970 as does the original olive green color.

Here is mine from a 1966 Nassau. A little blurry, but right above the starboard transom drain. Mine says 16 ft. Nassau and the serial begins with "66"

Transom shot. It's right behind the red thingie to the right of the Jetson light.

On some of the bigger SCs I've seen the plate by the controls.

on my 64 Starchief, the ID plate was hidden UNDER the teak rail along the inside of port side gunwale....not visible until i took the rails off to refinish em.
