It's been a while since I've been on here. I have a 161 FS and just took the Evinrude 50 off and installed a Evinrude 75 Hustler. Needed more power for all the extras I carry on big water. Any suggestions as to what prop to start out with? It has a 14p on it now. Thanks.

My 165 ss has a 50hp johnson and i'm running a 15p. See if you can do some prop testing, I'd probably start with a 16 or 17 with that kind of power. also depends on what you're looking to get out of it.

That is a fine motor, those 3 cyl JohnnyRude motors are bullet proof and easy to work on, nice score. :thumb:

14p is too low for that combo, I agree that you need to go up in pitch but first you should run it with that prop. Get the numbers speed by GPS, RPMs and find out your gear ratio on that motor to come up with the perfect replacement. Otherwise it's just a guess. Be sure to not over rev though as I'm sure it will and that will have a hole shot that will loosen your molars!

The manual I got with the motor says gear ratio is 12:29. I am waiting for a tach before trying it out. Also is there any way to install a temp gauge or water-pressure gauge? I can't see any fitting like I have had on newer motors. Thanks again.

I don't believe you'll be able to use temp gauge but I think it should have a over heat alarm. Not sure about the water pressure gauge but if you have a tell tale that comes off the top of the power head and it's flowing then your good

Well I took out the 195GLS this weekend and tried out the 140. It pops right up on plane and will cruise at 40 mph. It ran great except it sucks down gas lol. I figured it wouldn’t be as friendly on fuel as the 70 that was on it previous. The prop thats on it is a 14x17. Think I would gain much moving up a size or two?

One would have to guess to give advice on increasing prop pitch without knowing what your WOT RPMs are and the speed by GPS. For your size boat and it's weight I'd say with the 140 you're dialed in pretty dang good getting 40.

I have a 140 Merc with a 19p prop on an 18' Starcraft and I can hit 45 WOT with 2 big guys on board, full belly tank and a heavy bow with 2 batteries and a 80# Minn Kota.

Finally got the 75 fired up and running. Sounds good. Now to get to the lake for a tryout. Should do better than with the 50.

You'll be astonished how well that 3 cyl 75 moves your boat over the twin 50.

Disappointed in the trial today, only gained 5-6 MPH over the 50. Don't think the 14p prop is going to get it. Anyone on here have the same boat with a 70hp? What prop? Thanks.

WIll need to know what RPMs you hit at WOT and speed by GPS to make an accurate suggestion.

I hooked up the small digital tach but want to hook up the dash tach that came on the boat. It is pretty straight forward, however I need to change the pulse setting. It is on 6 now for the 2 cylinder 50. What should it be for the 3 cylinder? I read about figuring out haw many poles in the stator, but it was above my pay grade.

I'd suggest starting a topic about your motor if you think it isnt running right, and possibly a Prop forum topic about swapping props and reaching max RPMs at WOT.

Neither subject is specific to a Sea Nymph, the sub-forum this topic is in and arent related to the topic title:
