5.0 engine won't maintain idle

I have new 2004 5.0 motors with about 100hrs on them in a 1993 Rinker 300. One motor has started to die at idle and if I can keep it running it occasionally surges between 1-2000rpm. The problem started within an hour of taking on fuel, but it has not affected my other motor at all so I'm not sure fuel is the problem. If I'm quick I can get it started and run the throttle up and throttle back to neutral and shift into forward before it dies. Once the motor is at cruising speed it runs fine, and I ran both motors up to 4800rpm at 35mph for about 15min. and both ran fine.

I looked for a water/fuel separator but can't find one on either motor. Does anyone have any bright ideas about what would cause this type of problem? Also, are there supposed to be water/fuel separators on a 1993 Rinker 300?

Thanks, Phil
