Linking search results in posts - Can a Mod check this out?

It seems to me that I've seen this done and have even done it myself, but I thought you could put a link in a post to a search results page. Should I be able to do that, or is something not working correctly? All you get when you click on the link is "Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms. ".

Can a mod check this out? Here's a post that it didn't work for:

Thanks.

I am not sure exactly what you mean....
http://forums.iboats.com/search.php?searchid=4752427
Is the URL for a search that I did....which works outside a post....and displays the results of the search....in this case two threads.
I am not sure whether it works once posted....we'll see.
Also not sure what that would do for you or why it might be useful.

http://forums.iboats.com/non-boatin...tage-rectifier-regulator-question-558179.html
The above link is to the actual post I was "looking for". ..one of the two returned by the search.
As far as I am aware, that is just a normal URL and will redirect you to the thread if you click on it.

I am not aware of any search function capability that gets you to an individual post rather than a thread.

(of course once I post this, none of it will work as i described.... )

Here's what happened:

I did a search for a new member with a question who may not have been too familiar with the search function. Rather than explain all that, I copied the url to the results and inserted that link in a post.

He replied that the link didn't work; I tried it and it did work for me.

So I did the same again on another search this morning. Again the link didn't work for him. I tried it myself and this time it did not work. I went back to the old links and they did not work either.

Here's the thread:

http://forums.iboats.com/boat-restoration-building-hull-repair/starcraft-jet-star-15-restore-583703.html

It seems to me, but don't ask me to find it  , that someone has posted search results for me on this forum that has worked in the past.:confused:

("I am not aware of any search function capability that gets you to an individual post rather than a thread." ...sorry if I wasn't clear, what I meant was to "Search Titles Only" instead of "Search Entire Threads".)

The link to the search results is what won't work if you post them for others, even in Tims post above, the individual links to a particular thread you chose out of that search will work.
The person that posted the link might be able to see it on his computer because his computer has the temporary internet files and cookies for that particular search.

That link took me to thread where you said :

I guess you can't link search results. I did an advanced search for "painting aluminum",thread titles only.

As far as how long it took me to prep mine, you can't go by that! My time spent was very sporadic, but I'd say if you lumped it all together into an every day sort of thing, it would have taken at least a few weeks, unless you worked all day on it every day. I only stripped my hull bottom and transom, everything else, I left the existing paint on, prepped that, and repainted.
